2009-08-21 10:00

On August 21, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Serbian President Boris Tadic in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

During the meeting, Wen said that China-Serbia relations have a firm political foundation and a sound social basis, and both sides share common interests in a wide range of areas. "Both nations should take the establishment of strategic partnership as an opportunity to deepen mutual trust and collaboration and benefit both peoples," Wen said.

Wen said the Chinese government is ready to work closely with the Serbian side to earnestly implement the various consensus and agreements already reached. "The key of our cooperation at present is to tackle the global economic crisis, actively promote personnel and information exchanges between the businesses of both countries and encourage financial institutions to offer financing service for big projects." Wen expressed belief that with the joint efforts, China-Serbia economic and trade cooperation will reach a new high.

Tadic said both sides share profound traditional friendship. He lauded the new strategic partnership as "a new chapter" in bilateral relations. He hopes both sides will further enhance exchanges and dialogue between their government departments, expand economic, trade and investment cooperation, and push ahead with key cooperation projects in infrastructure construction and other areas. The Serbian side also sought China's understanding and cooperation on major international and regional issues.

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Minister of Commerce Chen Deming and other officials attended the meeting.
